Q&As
Q:

How do I avoid crosstalk over long runs?

A:

Crosstalk can occur between 2 channels over long runs.

To avoid crosstalk, where possible, avoid STARQUAD cable wired for balanced lines.

The recommended cable is Belden 8723 for long runs. This a twin pair, shielded 22AWG cable. However this cable does not like sun or rain and personally I think expensive!

For more info visit Belden's Website

Alternatives listed here are 88723, 87723 7 82723

The RECOMMENDED WIRING for twin pair and screen cable is

XLR
Pin 1 = Screen / one leg of pair / one leg of pair 2
Pin 2 = the other leg of pair 1
Pin 3 = the other leg of pair 2

If you are suffering major problems of crosstalk and you are limited by your cabling one tip is... having identified the line causing the most problem:

  • Insert one end of an XLR "Y" chord at the near end (from the PSU)
  • Lift pin 3 on one XLR connector and pin 2 on the remaining XLR connector.
  • These should now be plugged into 2 separate cables going to the far end.
  • Another normal XLR Y chord should now be plugged in at the far end.
  • This will recombine the channels into the beltpack... Hopefully minus the xtalk
